With much fanfare Google today announced that a Nexus One smartphone is now available directly from Google. On the face of it, this would seem like the opening of the smartphone market, much to the potential benefit of solution providers in the channel.

Over the weekend the news about Google’s direct marketed phone, the Nexus One, has been released. Apparently Google has released the phone into the capable hands of their employee base (who quickly started tweeting about the phone’s awesomeness) in order to review the custom made (Android based) software that will run the phone. Are we looking at a 2 Qtr Launch in store for us?
AT&T is experimenting with the idea of giving users “incentives” to reduce their data usage. They claim that only 3% of smart phone users are data hogs, but everyone I know that has an iPhone overuses it. What happens when AT&T finally ostracizes itself from it’s bread and butter demographic?
This year gave us some strong phones platforms, the iPhone 3Gs, Palm Pre, Windows Mobile 6.5, and Android. The platforms have more influence then the hardware they run on in the larger scheme of things.
We want to know… Will Motorola’s Droid Beat Apple’s iPhone?
